Dynamic. Flexible. Better.

interco Aktivline! offers customized products and standardized wheelchair systems for dynamic sitting and positioning. The patented solutions have been specifically developed for patients with involuntary stretching, which for example occur in infantile cerebral palsy. They help to improve peoples' life sustainably: Seat up your Life!

Idea. Concept. Solution.

The idea for the AKTIVLINE arose from the practical experience that rigid seating systems do not provide optimal care for all patients. Children and adults with involuntary stretching movements in particular often have problems with their care system. While the body has the urge to perform a movement, the care system is designed to try to secure the patient in the specified position. This is different with AKTIVLINE.

Disadvantages of rigid care systems
Rigid care systems prevent the patient from moving. The patient's energy acts directly on the material of the care system through the fixation. This can lead to tension, bruising and chafing of the patient. In addition, bent or broken seat shells and other damage to the seating systems are frequent consequences. If the fixation of a rigid restoration is loosened, the patient slips and must always be returned to the orthopedically correct position.

Providing controlled freedom of movement
The dynamic AKTIVLINE seating system combines an orthopedically optimal sitting position with guided freedom of movement for the first time. This prevents the mentioned problems. In addition, the change between different postures can have a positive effect on breathing, circulation and digestion as well as on the mobility of the joints.

Patients confirm the following advantages, among others:

  • Less tension, pain and skin injuries
  • No slipping from the care system due to movement
  • Maintains mobility
  • Improves breathing, circulation and digestion
  • Prolongs active sitting time and provides better posture
  • Tactile perceptual information remains constant
  • Reduced repair and conversion times and costs

Function. Implementation. Technology.

AKTIVLINE care systems combine optimal positioning and maximum freedom of movement. For this purpose they use the physiological pivot points at the pelvis and knees and guide the movement exactly in the desired path. The seat and back unit are mounted on sliding bars and allow opening of the hip angle to correspond to the patient's motion sequences. Simultaneously the knee-angle and foot rest unit permit the patient's stretching tendencies. Movements in the pelvis and knees can take place independently of each other.

Targeted support of movement
After movement, gravity and spring systems in the seat and leg system automatically return the patient to the physiological starting position. By permitting the natural urge and sequence of movement, the moving body parts can be kept mobile. A further advantage: the spatial position of the head and shoulder girdle only change minimally at maximum movement of the shell. The vestibular and visual perception remain constant, activities such as watching, drinking or operating a joystick are not disturbed.

Simply better positioning
In the relaxed position, the sitting angle, knee and foot angle are generally 90°. The anatomically customized upholstery of the seat shell takes the physiology of the patient into account. The seating system and undercarriage are of robust construction, patient-oriented and easy to operate. They can be optimally adjusted to the needs of the patient and the accompanying person.

Indication. Studies. Aid.

The scope of indications for dynamic AKTIVLINE care systems cover infantile cerebral palsy (spastic tetraplegia, dyskinetic tetraplegia, tetraplegia with dystonic spasms, athetosis and chorea athetosis) and cerebral movement disorders. Sitting and the ability for controlled movement of the head and upper extremities are extremely limited in these patients because of the following patterns:

Scope of indications

  • spasms in extension
  • stretching
  • pathological movement patterns in global extension
  • emprosthotonus and opisthotonus
  • Startle reaction
  • synkinetic stretching of the torso, upper and lower extremities
  • dystonic spasms
  • asymmetric and symmetric-tonic neck reflexes
  • tonic labyrinth reflex

Possible complaints due to rigid care systems

  • hip luxation and painful hip
  • muscle shortening and contractures
  • reduction in joint mobility
  • secondary damage due to immobility
  • pressure areas (decubitus)

Infantile cerebral palsy (ICP) and movement
Movement disorders as a result of spastic paralysis (infantile cerebral palsy) can exhibit different manifestations. On the one hand, different parts of the body can be affected (hemiparesis, diparesis, tetraparesis). On the other hand, movements themselves may be deficient (a- and hypokinetic) or not targeted (dyskinetic).

Perception always plays an important role in the organization of movements. However, patients with tetraplegia are often unable to control their posture and are quickly frightened. If on the one hand overstretching of the head, trunk and hip occurs and on the other hand the movement of the hip can be tolerated to some extent, an AKTIVLINE care system can be tried. This also applies to patients who cannot sit for long due to a painful hip. In the case of dyskinetic movement disorders, AKTIVLlNE currently offers the only alternative to classical, rigid care systems.

FAQ

How do I find the right seating system?

Selecting the right seating system is a complex task that should be tackled in close consultation with physicians, therapists and orthopedic technicians. In particular, the type of restriction and the degree of activity must be taken into consideration.

In order to find out whether the AKTIVLINE is a suitable care system, a non-binding appointment for a trial sitting can be used - for the appropriate indication. This allows patients to test whether an AKTIVLINE care system offers them the desired benefits.

Simply ask for a trial date: try it out now!

What is so special about an AKTIVLINE care system?

The dynamic AKTIVLINE seating system is the only care system which combines an orthopedically optimal sitting position with guided freedom of movement. For this purpose, the AKTIVLINE system uses the physiological pivot points at the pelvis and knees and guides the stretching movement of the patients exactly in the desired path. The seat and back unit are mounted on sliding bars and allow opening of the hip angle to correspond to the patient's motion sequences. Simultaneously the knee-angle and foot rest unit permit the patient's stretching tendencies. Movements in the pelvis and knees can take place independently of each other.

This dynamic sitting can help prevent problems such as tension, bruising and chafing of the patient as well as damage to the seat systems, which are common with rigid care systems. In addition, the change between different postures can have a positive effect on breathing, circulation and digestion as well as on the mobility of the joints.

For whom are AKTIVLINE care systems suitable?

AKTIVLINE care systems have been specifically developed for patients with involuntary stretching, which for example occur in infantile cerebral palsy and cerebral movement disorders. They enable an orthopedically optimal sitting position and at the same time allow involuntary stretching movements.

AKTIVLINE care systems are particularly suitable for patients with

  • spasms in extension
  • stretching
  • pathological movement patterns in global extension
  • emprosthotonus and opisthotonus
  • startle responses
  • synkinetic stretching of the torso, upper and lower extremities
  • dystonic spasms
  • asymmetric and symmetric-tonic neck reflexes
  • tonic labyrinth reflex

What are the advantages of an AKTIVLINE care system?

Patients who use AKTIVLINE care systems or their parents and therapists respectively, confirm the following advantages, among others:

  • Less tension, pain and skin injuries
  • No slipping from the care system due to movement
  • Maintains mobility
  • Improves breathing, circulation and digestion
  • Prolongs active sitting time and provides better posture
  • Tactile perceptual information remains constant
  • Reduced repair and conversion times and costs

Who do I have to contact if I want an AKTIVLINE care system?

First contact your specialist physician, who will issue a prescription for the provision of medical aids if indicated. Together with the specialist physician and the therapists and medical supply dealers of your choice, you will then select a suitable care system.

If you have any questions or need a recommendation, we are happy to support you.

Please contact us directly.

Do I need a doctor's prescription for an AKTIVLINE care system?

Yes. In Germany, the attending physician is responsible for the provision of aids. It is important that the physician states a dynamic AKTIVLINE seat shell and the exact requirements on the prescription and indicates as precisely as possible which additional components are needed for the care system.

In other countries  the proceedings may be different. Please contact us directly if you have questions.

Can I try out an AKTIVLINE care system?

Yes. We offer you the possibility of a non-binding trial sitting. This allows patients to test whether an AKTIVLINE care system offers them the desired benefits.

Simply ask for a trial date: try it out now!

Who assumes the costs for an AKTIVLINE care system? What must I pay for myself?

For Germany, the proceedings are as following: Basically if the indication is appropriate, the health insurance funds cover the costs for aids listed in the aids directory of the GKV Association (central interest group of the statutory health and nursing insurance funds in Germany).

The AKTIVLINE seating system is presently undergoing the registration process for inclusion in the aid directory. Cost assumption is therefore not excluded. With the appropriate indication, we have had good to very good experiences with many of the leading health insurance companies. There may be statutory supplementary payments, which you must pay yourself.

If you have any questions or need information about the assumption of costs in other countries, we will be happy to advise you in a personal consultation.

Are there also AKTIVLINE care systems for adults?

Yes, AKTIVLINE care systems are also suitable for adults. Here, the maximum load or maximum back rest height of the respective series must be taken into account.

For example, the AKTIVLINE Standard is suitable for a maximum load of 80 kg and a back height of 65 cm.

In the area of custom-made products, there are virtually no limits.

Detailed information can be found in the technical data of the individual series.

Can an AKTIVLINE care system also be combined with an electric wheelchair?

Yes. The AKTIVLINE E-Mobile care system consists of a dynamic and individually adapted seat shell which is mounted on a standard electric wheelchair with front or center wheel drive.

Where can I find a medical supply retailer from whom I can order an AKTIVLINE care system?

We cooperate with medical supply retailers and specialist orthopedic dealers throughout Germany and distribution partners in many other countries. We will be happy to recommend a contact person in your area who will advise you competently on an individual AKTIVLINE care system. Please contact us directly.
